Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. The Post Office evolved into a business that allows people send and receive cards without worrying about how to respond. Even though it is a small gesture to send a Christmas card, it can be just as important!
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
