In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. He used the money from these sales to establish a public record bureau. The Post Office evolved into a business that allows people send and receive cards without worrying about how to respond. It may seem like a small gesture, but sending a Christmas gift card can be just the same as sending one.
There are many different types of cards you could send. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were very expensive, and most people could not afford them. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
