Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. He used the money from these sales to establish a public record bureau. The Post Office evolved into a business that allows people send and receive cards without worrying about how to respond. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are many different types of cards you could send. In the United States, Christmas cards were first produced by a German printer in the late 1840s. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. Louis Prang, a Boston-based lithographer, made the first Christmas card commercially in the United Kingdom. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
