Henry Cole, the first man in London to sell Christmas cards, sold them for 1 shilling in 1843. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. The Post Office has grown to be a business that allows people sending and receiving cards without having to think about how to reply. And while it’s a small gesture, sending a Christmas card can be just as important as sending one!
There are many different types of cards you could send. In the United States, Christmas cards were first produced by a German printer in the late 1840s. They were very expensive, and most people could not afford them. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This allowed for a very realistic holiday image and allowed for five millions cards to be made in one year.
