In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. Even though it is a small gesture to send a Christmas card, it can be just as important!
There are many types of cards you can send. Christmas cards were first printed in the United States by a German printer in late 1840s. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
