Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were very expensive, and most people could not afford them. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
