In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are several types of cards that you can send. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
