In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. It may seem like a small gesture, but sending a Christmas gift card can be just the same as sending one.
There are several types of cards that you can send. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were extremely expensive and could not be afforded by most people. Louis Prang, a Boston-based lithographer, made the first Christmas card commercially in the United Kingdom. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
