Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. The Post Office has grown to be a business that allows people sending and receiving cards without having to think about how to reply. And while it’s a small gesture, sending a Christmas card can be just as important as sending one!
There are many types of cards you can send. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were extremely expensive and could not be afforded by most people. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This process allowed for a very realistic image of the holiday, and allowed for the production of five million cards in a single year.
