In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. The Post Office evolved into a business that allows people send and receive cards without worrying about how to respond. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are many different types of cards you could send. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
