Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. And while it’s a small gesture, sending a Christmas card can be just as important as sending one!
There are several types of cards that you can send. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This allowed for a very realistic holiday image and allowed for five millions cards to be made in one year.
