In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are several types of cards that you can send. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. Louis Prang, a Boston-based lithographer, made the first Christmas card commercially in the United Kingdom. This allowed for a very realistic holiday image and allowed for five millions cards to be made in one year.
