In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are many types of cards you can send. In the United States, Christmas cards were first produced by a German printer in the late 1840s. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. Louis Prang, a Boston-based lithographer, made the first Christmas card commercially in the United Kingdom. This process allowed for a very realistic image of the holiday, and allowed for the production of five million cards in a single year.
