Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. He used the money he had made from these sales in order to set up a public information office. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. Even though it is a small gesture to send a Christmas card, it can be just as important!
There are several types of cards that you can send. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This process allowed for a very realistic image of the holiday, and allowed for the production of five million cards in a single year.
