Henry Cole, the first man in London to sell Christmas cards, sold them for 1 shilling in 1843. He used the money he had made from these sales in order to set up a public information office. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are many types of cards you can send. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
