Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. He used the money from these sales to establish a public record bureau. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. Even though it is a small gesture to send a Christmas card, it can be just as important!
There are several types of cards that you can send. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
