In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. He used the money from these sales to establish a public record bureau. The Post Office has grown to be a business that allows people sending and receiving cards without having to think about how to reply. It may seem like a small gesture, but sending a Christmas gift card can be just the same as sending one.
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
