Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. He used the money from these sales to establish a public record bureau. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. And while it’s a small gesture, sending a Christmas card can be just as important as sending one!
There are many types of cards you can send. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
