Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. The Post Office has grown to be a business that allows people sending and receiving cards without having to think about how to reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are several types of cards that you can send. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were extremely expensive and could not be afforded by most people. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
