Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. He used the money from these sales to establish a public record bureau. The Post Office evolved into a business that allows people send and receive cards without worrying about how to respond. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are several types of cards that you can send. In the United States, Christmas cards were first produced by a German printer in the late 1840s. They were extremely expensive and could not be afforded by most people. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
