Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. And while it’s a small gesture, sending a Christmas card can be just as important as sending one!
There are many types of cards you can send. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were extremely expensive and could not be afforded by most people. Louis Prang, a Boston-based lithographer, made the first Christmas card commercially in the United Kingdom. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
