Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. He used the money he had made from these sales in order to set up a public information office. The Post Office has grown to be a business that allows people sending and receiving cards without having to think about how to reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. In the United States, Christmas cards were first produced by a German printer in the late 1840s. They were expensive and not affordable for most people. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This allowed for a very realistic holiday image and allowed for five millions cards to be made in one year.
