In the year 1843, Henry Cole, the first man to sell Christmas cards in London, sold them for one shilling. He used the money from these sales to establish a public record bureau. The Post Office has grown to be a business that allows people sending and receiving cards without having to think about how to reply. Even though it is a small gesture to send a Christmas card, it can be just as important!
There are many different types of cards you could send. Christmas cards were first printed in the United States by a German printer in late 1840s. They were very expensive, and most people could not afford them. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
