Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. It may seem like a small gesture, but sending a Christmas gift card can be just the same as sending one.
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. Louis Prang, an American lithographer from Boston, created the first ever commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom. This process allowed for a very realistic image of the holiday, and allowed for the production of five million cards in a single year.
