Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. Even though it is a small gesture to send a Christmas card, it can be just as important!
There are many types of cards you can send. Christmas cards were first printed in the United States by a German printer in late 1840s. They were extremely expensive and could not be afforded by most people. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This allowed for a very realistic holiday image and allowed for five millions cards to be made in one year.
