Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. It may seem like a small gesture, but sending a Christmas gift card can be just the same as sending one.
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
