Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. The Post Office evolved into a business that allows people send and receive cards without worrying about how to respond. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are many different types of cards you could send. In the late 1840s, a German printer produced the first Christmas cards in America. They were very expensive, and most people could not afford them. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This allowed for a very realistic holiday image and allowed for five millions cards to be made in one year.
