Henry Cole was the first man to sell Christmas card in London in 1843. He sold them for one shilling. He used the money he earned from these sales to set up a public record office. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. And while it’s a small gesture, sending a Christmas card can be just as important as sending one!
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were very expensive, and most people could not afford them. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This process allowed for a very realistic picture of the holiday and allowed the production of five millions cards in one year.
