Henry Cole, the first man in London to sell Christmas cards, sold them for 1 shilling in 1843. He used the money he had made from these sales in order to set up a public information office. As a result, the Post Office has evolved into a business that allows people to send and receive cards without having to worry about how to reply. Even though it is a small gesture to send a Christmas card, it can be just as important!
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. Christmas cards were first printed in the United States by a German printer in late 1840s. They were very costly and many people couldn’t afford them. In the United Kingdom, the first commercial Christmas card was made in 1915 by a Boston lithographer named Louis Prang. This process allowed for a very realistic image of the holiday, and allowed for the production of five million cards in a single year.
