Henry Cole, who was the first person to sell Christmas cards in London in 1843, sold them one shilling. The money he made from these sales was used to open a public records office. The Post Office was born. It allows people to send and get cards without worrying about how they will reply. It’s a small gesture but sending a Christmas greeting card can be as important as sending one.
There are several different types of cards that can be sent. The United States’ first Christmas card was printed in 1840 by a German printer. They were extremely expensive and could not be afforded by most people. Louis Prang, a Boston lithographer, created the first commercial Christmas card in the United Kingdom in 1915. This allowed for a more realistic representation of the holiday and allowed for five million cards to be produced in one year.
