Henry Cole, an American lithographer, is the one who invented Christmas cards. He produced over five million Christmas cards per year by 1880s. His cards were made using a new process called chromolithography which allows for realistic coloration and detail. By the late 1800s, these cards had become the most popular gift for family and friends. There are so many different styles to choose from that you’re bound to find one that suits your needs.

Traditionally, Christmas cards were purchased by family members and friends. They can be purchased for several pounds today. Some cards are extremely rare and can fetch thousands. Even the first-generation original card is considered a special piece of history that is worth the price. Surprised to learn that one Sir Henry’s earliest cards sold at over PS22,000 per annum. In fact, today, you can buy a first-generation Christmas card for a few thousand pounds.
